Gotwald&Finch was established in 1991 in Georgetown, Washington DC and subsequently moved to Santa Fe NM in 1996. Now back in Washington, Michael Gotwald continues the firm.
Avoiding a signature style that is superimposed on all projects, Michael takes pride in making each project unique. Taking cues from the existing building or home and the objectives of the owner, each project presents unique problems to be solved.
Exceeding the dreams of the client is his goal, and returning clients attest to the success of his approach and creative process. He personally provides attention to the planning, development and installation of all projects. As a connoisseur, he takes pleasure in finding interesting furniture, fine objects and art and skillfully blending those with a client’s existing furnishings.
Trained as an architect, he has practiced in both large commercial firms and small residential ones. His portfolio includes new homes, renovated homes and apartments, commercial renovations of apartments and condominiums, as well as commissions for kitchens, baths, and additions.
Current projects include the renovations of a fine old apartment building’s public spaces and unit interiors, the complete renovation of a marvelous Embassy Row carriage house, an art studio barn in the Pennsylvania countryside, and a kitchen in an ancient farmhouse in the heart of rural France.
